Our History

“…Yes, whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him.” 1 Cor. 9:22 (LB)

Mount Helena Community Church began in the mid-seventies and has been serving Helena and the surrounding area for almost 30 years! The early congregation was a group of young people wanting to experience fullness in their life in Christ. They wanted to remove restrictions to worship and pursue a full expression of the Great Equipping Gifts. They felt that in order to do so, they needed to start as a non-denominational, independent, charismatic congregation with a full development of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These beginnings were factors that have shaped our congregation throughout the years.

Bryan Asay, with his wife, Margaret, first served the congregation as a Sunday School teacher, worship leader and elder. Since 1994, Bryan has served as the Senior Pastor, developing a strong team of leaders to serve the congregation in its efforts to effect transformation in each other, the congregation and, ultimately, the community.

MHCC met in a number of different buildings in the last several years as we renovated a warehouse in the heart of Helena. Before moving into our current facility, the Gateway Center at 1710 National Avenue, our last temporary facility was the Lighthouse Auditorium, one of the First Assembly of God’s buildings. Our journey began on the upper west side of Helena, took us to the Myrna Loy Center for a couple of years and then downtown into the lower level of the Arcade Building for four more years. In January 2005, MHCC began meeting at the Great Northern Town Center, then moved on to Four Georgians School in 2006 before settling at the Lighthouse Auditorium.

After a capital campaign, Mount Helena renovated a warehouse on National Avenue and moved into the newly christened Gateway Center in 2007, which is where we currently meet.

Helena (and the surrounding region) is a growing area. MHCC is a growing congregation (we have grown 15 to 25% for each of the last 4 years) and as we grow, our distinctives change. Presently, however, as a group we are relatively young – young families, young adults, youth. Most adults at MHCC are under 50 years of age.

Mount Helena Community Church also belongs to a growing non-denominational organization of churches called Life Links. MHCC is committed to investing our time and money into this organization to see it grow and reach the those who do not know our Lord Jesus.

Who Are We Trying To Reach?

At our present stage of development, we expect to draw people who are, for the most part, like us. Our strategy is directed to meet the needs of young parents, growing families, young adults, youth (high school/middle school) and children.

  • in a lifestyle of passionate worship
  • in strong relationships with other Believers
  • in the basic teachings of Christ
  • in the habit of reaching out to draw others into the peace of Jesus
  • in a lifestyle of LIFTING OTHERS UP!
  • in a visionary, city-reaching, world-reaching mind-set
  • in the perspective that they can make disciples and
  • in the understanding that They can do extraordinary things through Christ!

These pursuits represent our Core Values!
